Tips to Communicate with Your Legislators Minimize
Tips for writing your legislator

Emails and preformatted letters are the least effective and desirable.

Signed personal letters from an individual constituent are the most effective.

Identify your issue and your relationship to it in the first few sentences.

Be concise and keep it to one purpose.

Tips for visiting your legislator

Call ahead to schedule an appointment.

Plan for your visit and bring any pertinent documents you may wish to leave.

Be on time or early. Be prepared to wait as legislators' schedules change quickly.

Follow up your meeting with a note of thanks.

Tips for calling your legislator

You can call a legislator in either their Harrisburg or district offices. Legislators are generally in Harrisburg Monday through Wednesday and in their districts Thursday and Friday.

Identify yourself clearly by giving your name, your reason for the call and if you are affiliated with any organization.

A receptionist will usually answer, so ask to speak with your legislator personally.

You may wish to follow up with a note briefly mentioning your call and position and to say thank you.
